02 Dec Cross Section
I’m thrilled to have been included in the Running With Scissors 20th Anniversary Exhibition, Cross Section, At Cove Street Arts in the East Bayside area of Portland, Maine. I’m in love with both of these communities!
Running With Scissors is “is a dedicated makers space serving over 80 experienced to experimental artists and fine craftspeople working in various and sometimes multiple mediums. Set in the industrial and eclectic East Bayside neighborhood of Portland, ME RWS Art Studios is home to Clay, Print, and Wood departments. Our studios are a community where members share equipment, ideas, tools, and support.” I joined RWS in the spring of 2023 to broaden my connection to the Midcoast Maine art community and access equipment to help me with my process. I had no idea how valuable the impact the decision would have upon my practice. Having a personal studio is incredible, but a connection to a working artist’s community, even if it is only working around other people and observing their practices, is essential.
Cove Street Arts’ mission is one of “promoting contemporary Maine art, contributing to the Maine arts economy, and engaging meaningfully in the vibrant and growing East Bayside community by offering workshops and art-centered educational opportunities. Our 8,000 square foot exhibition space is dedicated to showing the incredible breadth and depth of fine art being made in this state and demonstrating how Maine remains a buzzing locus of creative energy – and how vibrant and vital Maine’s art scene continues to be.”
